You can also use it quite effectively on a smaller APS-C body like the Sony. The lens extends by about an extra 6cm when fully zoomed out to 300mm. It measures almost 15cms in length and weighs in at only 545g. Based on our hands-on time with the E-mount version of the lens, we expect strong autofocus performance on X-mount cameras. Given the 300mm maximum reach, the Tamron 70-300mm F4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is a surprisingly lightweight and compact lens. The lens includes Tamron's proprietary RXD stepping motor, promising quick, quiet and accurate autofocus performance. There are two Glass Molded Aspherical (GM) elements and one hybrid aspherical lens element. The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 lens includes 16 elements across a dozen groups. Concerning video, the lens has also been designed to exhibit minimal focus breathing. The MPU uses AI to help drive good stabilization performance across various situations, including when recording video. A dedicated Micro Processor Unit aids the VC system (MPU). Adding to its versatility is Vibration Compensation (VC) optical image stabilization. The new fast-aperture zoom lens is scheduled to go on sale on Jfor 799.

The lens can focus as close as 19 cm (7.5 in.) at the wide end and 39 cm (15.4 in.), resulting in a max magnification ratio of 1:4.8. The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD is the world's first wide range 4.1x standard zoom lens for X-mount.

The APS-C lens offers a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 25.5-105mm, making it like a 24-105mm standard zoom for full-frame cameras, albeit with the light-gathering abilities of an F2.8 max aperture. The lens weighs 525 g (18.5 oz.) and has a 67mm filter thread. I posted some videos from the Photoshop World Conference, including a quick recap of the week, over on my blog today if you’ve got a sec.The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 Di III-A VC RXD lens, shown here in E-mount on a Sony A6600 camera, is 11.9 cm (4.7 in.) long and has a max diameter of 7.46 cm (3 in.).

It rocks! While it certainly was a great replacement for the Nik Collection when it died, Luminar has a LOT of features the Nik Collection doesn’t - plus they are constantly adding new features to Luminar and growing the plug-in’s capabilities very quickly, so it will remain an important tool in my bag of tricks (errrr, I mean my “plug-in arsonal”) right along with the Nik Collection. In case you’re wondering, “Scott, does this mean you’re going to stop using Luminar?” (you were going to ask that, right?), the answer is no - I’ll absolutely keep using Luminar.

DxO isn’t a charity - their employees need to feed their families, too so I applaud DxO for what they did, and totally understand why they are charging for the update.

They didn’t “owe” anybody anything (though I think Google kinda did), so I give big props to DxO, and there is nothing wrong with them charging for the update to recoup their investment (it would have been wrong for Google to do so, but not for a third-party like DxO who basically came to the rescue). Look, they did a great thing - they invested a ton of money in updating mountains of code, across a bunch of plug-ins, and brought a beloved plug-in back to working order for all the folks whose version of Google’s application no longer worked. This update is $49 (on their site, it looks like it will move up to $69 at some point).

Happy Friday, everybody! Just a quick heads up the fine folks at DxO have released an update for the Nik Collection - it’s the same Nik Collection as always (no new features), but now it actually works across all the new Adobe applications (including the most recent Photoshop CC and Lightroom Classic updates), as well as the most recent Mac OS.
